ALEXANDER HERNÁNDEZ | MICROLOT | COLOMBIA | FILTER
Fourteen years ago, Alexander Hernandez ventured into the specialty market by planting 80% of his 10-hectare farm with Panamanian Gesha, complemented by Caturra and the experimental Bourbon Aji. Through years of experimentation, he perfected his post-harvest process to two 2-day aerobic fermentations, producing consistent, high-quality floral and fruity Gesha.
Alexander's wife oversees worker welfare, with up to 50 employees during peak harvest, making him the main employer in Monte Bonito. A key to his success is the quarterly organic nutrition given to the plants, enriching the soil with organic material and microorganisms. Committed to sustainability, Alexander has invested in water treatment and reintroduced shade trees to enhance carbon capture and attract international buyers. His farm is adjacent to a national protected natural corridor, with a river flowing into the Magdalena River.
